London Eating: Eat.st at Exhibition Road

Street food markets! I could wax poetic about them, but there’s really not much to say except that I love them and I love that London seems to have so many. It’s amazing the frequency which you run into them here – I’ve been to three different ones in the last three weeks just because they happened to be around somewhere else I was going. They are literally EVERYWHERE!

Anyhow, I bring them up because this weekend included a trip to Exhibition Road, which included a brilliant pop-up street food market held by the eat.st collective alongside various theatrics to celebrate the Olympics.

But first, the food market! Which includes…

Booze Buses!

Vine Vans!

Caprinha Carts… er… Booze Bikes? Whatever, Barcycle is a clever enough name.

As well as a veritable feast of food options. We ended up opting for…

Chicken Paella from…

Jamon Jamon

Pesto and Ham Mac & Cheese from…

Anna Maes…

And wood-fired Pepperoni Pizza from…

Er… this crazy looking cart bus.

They were all pretty darned good. I wish I had enough stomach left to try more.

Or this place

These places too!

And then there was the entertainment, which included…

Interpretive Street Skrillex

Statue-crobatics with a Live Classical Soundtrack

Student Canadian Scots…

… and their iPad-toting fans

Like everything in London these last two weeks, the road was surprisingly uncrowded, which is such a change from what it’d be like in Shanghai. Even if the transport authority blared on and on for two months prior about how the populace should try to avoid public transport, you betcha half the city would be crowding up the street fairs come a sunny Saturday.

I’m not complaining – being able to get a seat on the underground almost always has been pretty awesome.

The Exhibition Road Show is over now, unfortunately. However, if any of these pictures whetted your appetite for street food, eat.st is still going strong. Check them out at King’s Boulevard from now until the Closing Ceremonies, every day from 11am to 8pm.

Visit Eat.st!

After that, they’ll be moving back to their digs outside the back of King’s Cross.

Oooh… one more picture of the Statue-crobats.

Voila~ Balancing on other people’s heads should be an Olympic sport
